Interested
in Joining The Glenview Titan Aquatic Club (GTAC)
For
over five years, GTAC has had the pleasure of serving the
Glenview
community (and some swimmers from neighboring communities). We
are a year round competitive swim club that proudly calls the
pools at
Glenbrook
South
High School
our home pools.
Here
are some highlights of GTAC:
-
Our experienced coaches live in
Glenview
. We care about your swimmers and the community in which we
all live.
o
We participate in annual service projects/fund
raisers for programs within
Glenview
and the surrounding area.
-
GTAC swimmers range from beginning to championship caliber
swimmers.
o
For our younger swimmers, GTAC participates in
smaller swim meets so as to introduce our swimmers to swimming
competition in a fun, positive environment.
o
For our experienced and highly competitive
swimmers, GTAC participates in larger meets for competition
with the best swimmers in
Illinois
and surrounding states.
-
GTAC consistently places swimmers in the top ten at Illinois
Age Group Championship meets and has qualifiers for Senior,
High School State, Sectional and Junior
National meets beyond just the age group state level.

Congrats
to all GTAC Junior National Honor Society Award Winners
Recently,
Attea and Springman middle schools honored their student for academic
and community service achievements.
GTAC
wants to congratulate those swimmers that made this
distinguished list.
Swimming
is a time commitment that many students don't face in their
daily lives. So this award comes with hard work and
determination. Two keys to a successful life as an adult!
(The
complete list will be presented after Springman honors their
students)

Each
year the number of swimmers participating in the Championship
season and our Age Group point totals keep rising.
Thanks
for your continued support!
Become
an Official
GTAC
is looking for some parents that want THE best seat in the
house. By becoming an official, you will become more involved
and start to understand the sport of swimming. The initial
training session is pretty short. Then your ready to practice
your new skills. With more officials, we can run our own meet
at GBS.
In
order for GTAC to run sanctioned meets, we need to have
volunteer officials. At the entry level, officials are
stroke and turn judges and administrative judges who help with
equipment, official timing, etc. As you progress you can
become a starter and referee.
If
you are interested in attending one of them, your registration
materials have to be received by the Illinois Swimming office
at least one week before the clinic date.

We
raised $1,000 for Glenview/Northbrook Youth Services.
Ande
Wells presented the check to Dr Shellard during the GBS
Telethon. Reruns of the telethon can be seen on local access
cable channel 26.
Great
time had by all!
Big
hit was Callan taking pies for the team.
GTAC
Swimmer Honored
Katie
Iida was recognized as one of Illinois' top girl swimmers (the
state's fastest time for the 200 yard backstroke for 11-12
year old girls) at the Annual Illinois Swimming Recognition
banquet on October 12th. She met other top age group swimmers
swimmers and also had the opportunity to meet some current and
former Olympians from Illinois. We heard speeches of encouragement
and triumph.
Looking
around the banquet hall, I kept thinking how cool it would be
to have more swimmers representing GTAC.
Set
a dream...no matter how big and go for it!!
Congrats
to Katie!

(Gold
and Silver medallists from the 2008 Olympic games Matt Grevers
and Christine Magnuson...yes, that is the real silver medal
from the Olympics.)

SWIMMERS MAKE CHAMPIONSHIP CUTS
Justin
Pasquesi qualified for the 100 free for this weekend's Senior
meet. He'll join Anne, Olivia and Katie at this weekend's
championships. Justin will be a sophomore at Loyola and has
been with GTAC "pre and post braces". He is well
deserving of this accomplishment. Nice job!
Olivia Smoliga (a.k.a. Tiny...all 5'10" @ 13
yrs of age), not only did she qualified for for the first time
for Age Group State (50 Free, 100 Back
and 200 Back) but she won the 50 Free event and at the same
time qualified for the Senior Championships on
July 24 -27. She's joining "veterans" Anne Edwards
and Katie Iida at Seniors. (All three of them are 13 years
old.) Great job!
FINAL
2007/2008 ISI SHORT COURSE RESULTS
Each
year Illinois swimming recognizes the top ten fastest times
between September and March. Top ten swimmers are invited to
an annual banquet sponsored by Illinois Swimming to receive
special recognition.
All
swimmers who swam in Illinois are eligible. So if someone ages
up during this time frame, their times still count. For
example, a fast 11-12 year old swimmer has a top ten time but
in December he/she turns 13, his/her time still counts. In
short, more people are eligible to record a top ten time than
for the Age Group State meet. There are literally thousands of
swimmers that participate in each event.
As
a result, making top 50 means you are very, very fast. Top 30
in State is a outstanding. Top 20 is insane! Top 10, as
Coach Callan puts it, that's "sick".
Special
note: Katie Iida (11-12 yr old) had the fastest time in
Illinois for the 200 yard backstroke! Very cool!
Nice
job, Niki and Katie Wells, Sam Salganik, Anne Edwards, Justin
Pasquesi and Katie Iida.
You
all worked very hard for these accomplishments. You've been
and continue to be role models for all our swimmers in and out
of the pool.
